Hi, I've just heard from Parts Connexion that Riken is no longer in production.
Just thought I'd let you know...
Any other news/comments?

old news already 🙂
carbon composition resistors
Who else still makes them?
I never liked the Riken carbon comp resistors because of the gold plating on the leads. I don't think it does any good for the solder joints -- gold is good for connectors, but not soldering ...
Anyway, I think Ohmite probably still makes carbon comp resistors, maybe Xicon. Anyone else?

Is there anything inherently wrong with carbon composition resistors for use in chipamps? I've heard pros and cons:
Cons
1- have more drift and noise
2- may break down with sustained high temp use
Pros
1- have a warmer tone...maybe due to our perception of drift
2- old school?

Peter Daniel perfers them in his chip amps:

also mentioned in other threads.
Old skool I like! 😀
I should mention I stock: NOS RC (Commercial) RCR (Mil -Spec)
Allen- Bradley
IRC International Resistance Corp
Airrco- Speer
Stackpole
TRW
Ohmite
And others in Carbon Comp resistors
1/8W - 1/4W - 1/2W - 1W - 2W
Most people prefer the Allen-Bradley but since these are so hard
to find depending on the value they will settle for other Manufacturer's

I did a google.
According to these people, Riken is carbon comp...

And according to these people, they are carbon film...
http://www.angela.com/catalog/resistors/Resistors.html
But according to these people, they are carbon comp film !
http://www.audiokitmania.com/resistor.htm
What is the difference 😕
