Right Mixer

Hi all,
I'm new here with hopefully not a ridiculous question. I have a pair of Yorkville YXL12 passive speakers (600 watts each) and a Yorkville M810 power mixer. Is this combo good enough to do a 50th party for about 125 people in a hall that has a 15' x 30' dance floor?

Any answers would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Hey Mars647! Welcome.

Not a ridiculous question, but it just might be in the wrong forum. No worries.

The M810 mixer manual shows that it can output 250 watts per channel at 8 ohms. Since the YXL12 speakers are 8 ohms, that is going to be your available power output.

250 watts is a big number, and I imagine it will do just fine for the dance floor. The Yorkville mixer/amp was probably made for that type of work. I am not familiar with the brand, however, so YMMV. As always, if you can test it beforehand, do give it a try. Just make sure you have the right type of speaker connector cables for your party.

You'll also need to have some type of cables from your device supplying the audio, CD player, laptop, etc. Page 5 of the manual says this:

Tape/CD Input

Left and right RCA inputs are provided to connect a CD player, cassette player or other stereo source to the mixer. These inputs are routed directly to the main bus, the Tape/CD control adjusts the amount of signal."

Getting audio out of a laptop can be more difficult these days as many are removing headphone jacks and such to save space. A headphone jack will work, but it's probably a 1/8" stereo jack. You'll need to adapt that to a set of RCA cables for the input to the mixer.

Once you get to setting the system up, take a little time to optimize the gain. Mixers can have a few different places to increase/cut the gain, and going overboard in an attempt to "just make it louder" will give you nothing but horrible, distorted sound. Go easy on the gain until you get a handle on where it starts sounding bad.

Good luck!
