Is it possible to turn a ribbon tweeter to a ribbon mic? It can be done with normal speakers but this might be totally different matter, I'm not sure. I've plugged ribbon tweeter in to my mixer for a test but nothing happened, that is no sound came out. So I'm asking before I even try to open the tweeter and see what's in there.
Unlike a figure of eight microphone, a ribbon tweeter is enclosed at the back so will exhibit a falling low frequency response if used as a microphone.
Also, the foil in a ribbon tweeter is thicker and heavier than the foil in a ribbon microphone which will affect its sensitivity when used as a microphone.
Then there is the question of the matching transformer. The transformer in a ribbon microphone provides an output impedance in the region of 300Ω. The one in a ribbon tweeter used as a microphone would provide an output impedance in the region of 8Ω, resulting in an impedance mismatch with your mixer. In addition, the tweeter transformer would produce a very small voltage gain compared to a the one in a ribbon microphone.
