Ribbon Tweeter in truck? why not?

I've talked to several people who have put ribbons in cars successfully, never in trucks though. They have a smaller air space which would make things like windows opening or doors closing cause a much larger pressure change inside the vehicle compared to something larger like a sedan. No one will know the answer until someone tries....but I do know it's worked fine in the past in sedans.

There are 2 kinds of speakers people call ribbons... a true ribbon (which the fountek seems to be) and an electrodynamic planar (aka quasi-ribbon).

Real ribbons won't fare well in a vehicle -- they are very fragile (just to move them (in a speaker or to ship) it is safe practice to put a piece of tape over the aperature).

A planar synamic ribbon on the other hand is generally very robust (some are used for road PAs) and i wouldn't hestitate to use one of those.

are ribbons that fragile?

Not as bad as people seem to exaggerate. I dont know anyone that broke a ribbon because of closing door. That's unless you mount the tweeters on the door. If you're mounting them in kick panels, then you shouldn't have a problem. When you close the door, the ribbon element will probably just shake, but it's not going to rip. 🙂

No offense to any of the moderators here...your knowledge in regards to home is second to non IMO.......But I have years of car audio experience and have built many high end cars and have have owned or had my hands on just about everything out there that can be put in a car including ribbons.....
