Hello everyone 🙂,
My friend just brought over a Rockford Fosgate 20001BD amp, it keeps going into protection mode. I tore it apart and found that L400 had 2 wires detached from their solder joints (pic attached) so I resoldered the wires, but it didn't solve the problem.
I also found R235 (big 5watt resistor) to have a burn mark on it, not sure what the correct resistance is suppose to be it reads "RCD K2-101 5W 3KK"
If two wires on the L400 choke got disconnected would it damage any circuits in the amp? Is this just a choke or part of the switching power supply?
I called my friend and this is what he told me happened:
His amp was working fine with no distortion or noise, but it kept cutting in and out sometimes. My friend decided to extend his power cable to the cable by 3 feet and after he plugged the longer power cable in the amp went into protection mode and wont come out again.
I have the amp down to barebones no subs or RCA connected just Power, Ground, and remote, and still goes into protection mode. I didn't notice any obvious solder bridges but I really need a schematic for this amp if anyone has it.
If anyone can email me a schematic I'd appreciate it, ham6292@calu.edu, anybody have any suggestions, should I just start tracing from the power mosfets?

Do you read 0 ohms between the legs that came unsoldered and the positive speaker terminal?

I'm reading 0 ohms between the Speaker terminal and the two sets of wires that stayed on the board, the other two sets of wires don't read anything near open circuit between them and +speaker terminal these two are the wires nearest the STARDUST logo on the board and the clear glue in my picture above in the first post
It seems like a couple of the IRF P3415's are shorted out, would the coil becomming disconnected cause this?

On that inductor and a lot of the output filter inductors in other Rockford amps, there is an extra winding with 1 or 2 turns. The windings are only there to help secure the inductor. They have no connection to the amp circuit. The broken winding wouldn't cause the outputs to fail unless the inductors rubbed against and shorted to the circuit board.
R35 and R36 are both 3k ohm resistors.
