Iggy, i got you think you can find something behaving as needed from off the shelf products but you'll need to make a load of test to find the right one...

About sorbothane, yes it can behave 'elastic' on short term action but long term it doesn't behave like it. It is misleading and why they called this kind of products 'metamaterial': depending of time it change it's behavior.
A analog kind of behavior can be found in nature: quicksand. It's a natural 'metamaterial' compound (of water and sand).
