Im about to rewind a dead single-coil pickup i have. I just have some doubts about the wire, is this actually the same wire used to wind transformers or its something more specific. I also read somewhere that i should magnetise the coil but i didnt find out how its done.
The pickup wire is just very fine magnet wire, like you might find in a transformer... hundreds or thousands of turns of it.
Hi,
you do not need to magnetise the coil.
A dead pick-up - very unusual the break is in the middle of the coil -
so most can be repaired by re-establishing the connections at both
ends - any turns you unwind to do this will make little difference.

thanks again sreten 🙂 well i was planning on repairing it the way u said...however it was in about 1000 pieces...its just my fault...i was making something and i used the screwdriver too violently🙂 anyway i got a used humbucker for 10 bucks so i'll leave the rewinding for later time when i find some magnet wire in smaller spools...as the shops here are selling spools of 1kg to up and it will cost too much to order them from stewmac too 🙂
