> fader start socket
To play a record, a 'disk jockey' should: 1) start the turntable 2) turn up that channel fader on the mixing console. While cracking jokes and reading ads, and maybe rolling a joint.
The mixing console fader usually already had a switch, so the DJ could "pre-queue" the disk to the start of the song via an off-air "Cue speaker", then click to on-air mode. Radio DJ turntables were often wired with extra switching so when the knob or slider was moved past the "zero" position, the turntable started to spin.
Tape decks got into radio very early, and when they became common it made sense to make them auto-start in a similar way. Starting a sophisticated deck is a little more complicated, but later ones were all logic controlled so it was easy.

You have to register but I have never had spam or junk-mail from this source.
24V, AC or DC, either way, applied to Fader Start terminals 1 and 2, will light the LED inside the 4N28 opto-coupler, and initiate a Start Play command.
For your convenience, 24VDC is available terminals 5 and 6. Wire, for example, pin 6 to pin 2, and pin 5 to pin 1 via a switch. When switch is closed (passing current) the deck should play, when open, deck should stop.
In a home setting, I can't see why you would want just Play/Stop via remote. For a few more wires you could duplicate the whole Pause << >> Play Stop functions remotely via the Remote Control socket.

Thanks for you excellent reply, much appreciated.
I agree it is not normally required in the home setting and as I have a remote control I will not be needing it.
