I scored myself a second hand NEC MT810 projector ( 3 lcd@800x600)
the only problem is that the bulb is blown and the replacement is $600 AUD !!
is there anyway i can retrofit this with something a little cheaper / brighter ?
The replacement lamp would need to be powered but the projector as it has a broken circuit detection that means the projector wont start without a bulb.
cheers

PS. If anyone happens to have a copy of the service manual they can email me it would be very much appreciated.

Hey,
Im in the same situation. What i plan to do is find out the specs of the actual projector bulb and find something that matches up close. Im not sure if im gonna just make a lil reflector or try to put a new bulb into the old bulb casing/reflector (if its even possible). not sure what to use yet, but i know my projector takes 250w metal halide so maybe i could use a 250w hqi? I havent even gotten my projector yet, just planning ahead, but i will let you know how it goes.

How about this? I am not up on the exchange rate for $AUD but $150 US is a fair shade better than $600AUD I think.

Also I am sure its possible to replace the bulb in the reflector housing,
There is at least one outfit that does it. http://www.jopprugroup.com/plamp.htm

Wow im pretty late answering this one, o well I have been busy working, looking for bulbs, buying my ballast, and getting back into the portablizing video game systems. Anyway, I got the projector a while ago from ebay I have a whole thread aboot it some place. Its a ctx ezpro 600, i think... Its not bad for 230$ with a slightly working bulb. And an update on the retrofit, i have ordered all the parts (ballast, power cord, g12 holder, and bulb). I just ordered the bulb less than 2 minutes ago. I will work on it alot next week (no work, woohoo). I will have tons of pics and hopefully it turns out good, IE: No glass shrapnel in my face....
NEC MT810 banding/vertical lines
Uh, oh... I bought one of these too. It worked fine for awhile. first I used it with a powerbook (Mac laptop) it worked great. I used the RGB port.
But I dont have the laptop anymore so I'm using the output from a Sony PS2 (composite). At first it was fine.. but as movies (DVD's) progressed, a green band would appear on thr right side of most objects.. somethimes a purple segment line too.
I've heard this is called banding? Theres a Vertcile/Horizontal adjustment on this thing in RGB input mode only. I've tried that, but the menu is hardly readable because of the extra vertical lines.
I've got the thing apart... but I can't figure how to move the LCD's horizontally.. they seem to be spring loaded. But loosening the alan screws seems to have no effect in allowing the LCD to move to the left or right (I'm trying to move it a bit to the left to see if the banding disappears).
Any idea on this? Or sourse of a technical manual/service manual that covers this sort of thing?

Regarding your green band at the side. If this is a small band then you should be able to open up the unit and then mask the side with something. That way it won't be projected. Of co**** you will loose some of your screen but you already have that problem. At least the band won't be projected.
