Restoring Duophonic or electronically processed stereo.

Gentlemen,
In the early 70s to few years down the line there were some electronically processed stereo vinyls of Indian film music. Few were listenable most were not. I was wondering can it be restored atleast in mono ? I read filters and phase change were used to make it sound like fake stereo. What causes them to sound like that ?
Thanks and regards.

Fake stereo is usually pretty listenable converted back to simply mono.Add a mono/stereo button somewhere in the chain.

Yes, they usually panned some treble to one channel and some bass to the other channel in those fake stereo LPs,
so a mono playback should be as good as they'll ever get. If you don't have a mono switch, you can use two Y adaptors
(one M and one F) back to back at the phono inputs, to short together the two channels of the cartridge.
