If I use Windows Media Player and go from Full Screen mode to compact mode or some other custom window frame size I can do this no problem and my resolution does not change does it?
Another words what controls my display resolution is Powerstrip and my desktop settings. Making the media player window smaller just squeezes the pixels does it not.
For instance. Lets say your monitor/video card is set to display 1361x1024 and you have a jpg photo of this res. You open it in a image viewer such as ACDSee but you resize the window to half the size. This does not reduce the displayed resolution of the final image or of your monitor video card does it?
So if all of this is correct can we not use larger monitors which may have higher res than 1024x768?
So what software allows us to control the window size of our HTPC dvd image? Would it be things like Powerdvd etc...?

To be honest with you, I have no idea what you're trying to ask. No, resizing images doesn't change the resolution of the monitor. Yes, PowerDVD can resize video while it's playing. What would be the purpose of paying nearly twice as much for a higher res LCD(yes, they're that much more) and then resizing it to 1024*768?
I think I know the answer. It was a dumb question actually.
The full width of a 15 inch lcd monitor has 1024 pixels per vertical line.
Use half the width of the screen and you are seeing 512 pixels per vertical line.
