This topic has come up many times, so I am just as guilty as every one else y submitting this thread... There really seems to be a problem of topics being posting many times over. I relize that it can be a pain to search the forum, be all the answers are here. I suggest that when a topic is posted that has already been covered in depth on the fourm, the moderator locks it with a note to the person saying the info is here and look for it, or, if the moderator is a super cool moderator, post a link to the info. The problem of newbies (and somtimes oldies) asking questions already coverd in the forum will only get worse and worse. As more fluff is posted, the good stuff will be harder and harder to uncover.
While I agree... I think there's more to it. Many threads go off topic and the original question/intent is never finalized. So the thread gets buried and a new one is created again... (by some newbie like myself) becuase we want to see the conclusion.
Also..now I say this with much love...threads that are longer than five or so pages are really hard to sift through. I lurked around when there was only 1 projector thread (way back long ago) that spanned a hundred pages. I left and came back a month or so ago... and was impressed by all the work/organization. However, I still see the same signs of the old days... DIY Projector thread part I, part II etc - where it seems to be just "whatever goes". Plus the Wiki is rather outdated (I hope to add my FAQ once I finish it) so many newbies just post. I mean... sometimes you don't even know something exists...so how are you supposed to search for it?
In any case, I know how it goes... a lot of forums arel ike this so it's nothign personal. Like I said..I have a lot of respect for everyone here and I am still learning a lot. And although it can never be fully organized... I think we can all at least try to keep threads on topic (with good subject headings).

I think the wiki needs to be updated. Some links to active sites would help too. Sites with FAQ's. Sites with OHP comparison charts, etc.
Yes...even better...more comparison charts (like this one):

Comparison charts of OHPs, LCDs and a link to their resulting pictures would be nice. In the HTPC forums at AVS I like how they add "and if you have the money, upgrade this to that".

That link is a perfect example of what a messed up montrosity this site is. I knew that chart existed, yet I had no way to find it again. There are TONS of links that I wish I knew how to find again here.
Kinda like where I read that the fresnel needs to be as close as possible to the LCD panel.....really wish I could find that again. Then you and I could ask this person how they arrived at this conclussion.

TFT as close to fresnel as possible
I've seen that post too, but I can't remember it having any info on picture quality/rings etc., only to place it as close as possible to get the most active area of your 15" tft.
As this forum keeps on growing it might be time to split it up? (I know its been said b4, but when moderators cant find posts, how can less skilled members find anything?)
A few basic topics could be
- Retrofitting video projectors
- Retrofitting OHP's
- Optics
- TFT's
- Screens
- Results
It would require moderating to keep posts on topic tho.
