Replacing the optical pickup on Philips CDM12 IND

Has anyone tried to replace the optical pickup on a Philips CDM12 IND? I have a Proceed CDD which uses this transport, and although the current CDPRO2LF is backward compatible, word has it that when Madrigal used these transports, they modified them to suit their needs. I'm thinking that their modifications are on the circuit board for the transport itself and replacing the optical pickup on my existing transport should get me back in business.

Can anyone confirm if what I am thinking is possible? Has anyone done this repair to get their Proceed or Mark Levinson CD player back up and running once it enters Skipsville?

The authorized repair centers for Proceed (only 2 of them left in the US) want on the order of $1100.00 to repair my CDD which is outrageous. I'm just looking to revive my transport.

 DISCLAIMER: I posted yesterday about getting the Proceed repaired but this post is narrowed down to the replacement of the optical pickup and I didn't know how to modify my old post to change the subject to get more readers. Sorry in advance for the overlap.

Replacing the laser / sled assembly is probably the way to go. The first step is to get some photos to determine what laser the mechanism is currently using. Remove the black plastic cover on top of the mechanism to get a better view.

Unless any members out there know what it uses already?

Thanks for the feedback ACM184!

I have a line on a company in San Fran that does the replacement laser for a very reasonable price. I have an email into them to confirm they will work on my model of Philips. For $70 + shipping, I'm not going to bother attempting this myself.
