I just replaced the RCA cables on my tech 12's but im not using the thick gauge cables that the turntables come with... I am using thinner gold plated RCA cables I got in the hardware store.
I doubt this is the proper solution for RCA cable replacement, so my question is "Is it important (if yes why?) to have the proper gauge RCA cable for the turntables?"
Thanks

It's not a question of gauge that is important, it's the adequacy of shielding and the cable capacitance. If it sounds good it's probably ok.
