Replacing Laser mechanism in CD Players with CD Rom Parts

Just getting my feet wet with fixing / updating CD Players.

Can you take the Laser Assemblies from CD-ROMs and replace non working laser units in CD-Players / CD Changers?

It don't worth, or... better said, CDrom laser pickup doesn't fit in other CD player except the CDrom for what it was built.
I searched Sony KSS laser pickup from CD-roms, but these units are scarce too.
