replacing amp in old receiver with 3116 red board

I have a Rotel 404 receiver and the amplifier IC is bad on it.

Is it possible to replace the amplifier section of an old Rotel 404 receiver with a 3116 red board that I have? If so, how difficult would it be? Has anyone done this on an old receiver?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about TPA3116D2 (or any other Class D amp) being a good replacement for a *receiver*.

Namely, in my experience, most of the Class D amps seem to degrade FM reception, this being due to the way Class D amps operate.
There might be other Class D amps which are better in this regard (less FM interference), but, IMHO, the TPA3116 is not the one to use.

If you don't need a lot of power, the TDA7297 might be a better choice (it's not a Class D amp and does not degrade FM reception that much).

Others might have more experience and may perhaps suggest something better - but I repeat - in my experience, the TPA3116 is not the right choice for a receiver, or for a system which uses an FM tuner...

RX404? == IC601 is SI1135HD -- a power SIP. you could probably rewire an LM4780 which will handle the +/- 34V rails, although you'll have to rejigger the mute circuitry. LM4780 is a staggered DIP.
