Can I replace 2n3773 with tip 35c without making any changes in the circuit board? Is 18-0-18 volt 5 amps transformer enough to power it? Please help.
As a general rule, no. It will not fit the circuit board without some manipulation (connecting the collector somehow). Nor will it handle anywhere near as much power.
Can a TIP35 be used on an amplifier with only +/-26 volt rails? Yes, for 4 or 8 ohm loads. Lower Z and you need to parallel them. That trafo will give you about 50 watts per channel at 4 ohms. If this was a kit designed to produce more power at higher voltage this is still all you will get. With those transistors, don’t go upping the voltage later, unless there are multiples in parallel. Above 30 volts, the power handling falls off to zero rapidly. 2N3773’s don’t do that.

I wouldn’t “spend” my MJ15024’s on an amplifier that runs on an 18-0-18 transformer. Use them when higher supply voltages are available/required.
Same here, but I wonder why Industrial Workhorse 2N3773 was specified in the first place.
As usual, posters ask questions WITHOUT showing the schematic 🙄
In truth, not even the 18-0-18VAC power transformer question can be rightly answered.

What was I thinking?
Now I knowTHE TRUTH!!!!
No, no Religion or Philosophy involved or implied.
🤔
Everything matches 😵
Yes, fake 2N3773 might match such a wimpy supply.
Now if they blew under such mild load, what can I tell you?
The question boils down to: "are fake 2N3773 stronger than fake TIP35?" 🤔🤔🤔

True, a +/-18 volt transformer may or may not work with a given amplifier. If it was designed for a lot higher voltage it may not even bias up properly. Some would, like the old MarK V kits designed to run over a wide range of voltage. You wouldnt get anywhere near full power on a lower voltage, but thats on the builder. You might think you’re getting 150 watts, but on the smaller transformer you’re not.
At sufficiently low voltage even fake transistors work fine. I’ve got a whole batch of fake 2SC3281’s that would run without issue. Might even have a couple fake MJ15024’s with “2N3055 inside” that would work too. I cut the tops off of most of ‘em to get a look-see, but there may be one or two still left intact.
I’ve got a little (cap coupled) +48V single-supply integrated amplifier that uses….. TIP35/6. NOS SGS - re-marked with a second-source brand, still in old TO-218 case, bought from a surplus dealer. It hasn’t blown up yet. The output capacitor provides enough peace of mind anyway.

MJ15003/04 and 2SA1302/2SC3281 are the most counterfeited transistors in history. Almost 99.9% on the market today are fake. The question is, how did an experienced member on this forum got into that trap ? 😉I’ve got a whole batch of fake 2SC3281
Edit: btw, look at these por sods.
Fake 2SA1302/2SC3281
516 sold and nobody is complaining !

I have a 2n3773 transistor amplifier but the transistor is a fake one. So will it make any difference in output if I replace it with orginal 2n3773?No.
TIP35 is some 5 times WEAKER than robust workhorse 2N3773, way beyond what datasheets show.
Replace 2N3773 only with robust TO3 metallic MJ15024
What is the minimum voltage required to run orginal 2n3773 transistor? What was I thinking?

Sellers DEMAND high rating even BEFORE sending the part.
If you complain afterwards, they offer full refund ONLY if you rate them highly.
Still surprised at the high ratings?
Which of course have fully lost any meaning.
You may still find usable stuff in EBay (like nigelwright) , but it´s absolutely random.
ALL are FAKEI have a 2n3773 transistor amplifier but the transistor is a fake one. So will it make any difference in output if I replace it with orginal 2n3773?
You do not have original 2N3773What is the minimum voltage required to run orginal 2n3773 transistor?
More important:
we do not know the schematic
that board is labelled 3055
it claims 260 "WAATS" .... literally.
There is no fault in the amplifier it works. I just wanted to know if I can upgrade this amp. I saw a video on YouTube. That guy said that the 2n3773 is a fake one so to upgrade it u have to replace it with tip35c. He said no need to upgrade if the 2n3773 is orginal. It looks like a car amplifier board (kit). For reliable operation, you need to use an additional radiator (housing). The fault that caused the amplifier to fail can be anywhere in the circuit. Are you sure there are no other faults?

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Higher voltage - more power. But you need an additional radiator, on which a profile with transistors is installed. Is 18-0-18 volt 5 amps transformer enough to power it?
It works - don't fix it until it's broken 🙂

Cool, then use them!!!!Bel (Bharat electronics limited) makes orginal 2n3773.
Why ask for substitutions?

Someone in the reply told that fake transistor may be able to run on lower voltage. So can I use 18-0-18 volt 5 amps transformer to run orginal 2n3773?Cool, then use them!!!!

You have been answered many times: YES-YOU-CAN
The doubts are not about that but the legitimacy of those transistors.
I know and respect BEL, in fact have extensively used their early incarnation UR-USHA 2N3055H ,over 1000 of them in abused Guitar/Bass/PA/Keyboard amps with excellent results, BUT would only trust them in an unopened original package, straight from the factory and with all the Customs and shipping stamps.
Which is how I got them; an importer brought 1000 but got sick of the red tape and delays, so he transferrted me his rights and I waited.
Now, would I trust a high street reseller or an even smaller back alley shop?
Not that much.
But hey, buy 4 and use them!!!!!
