Let me start by saying that I'm a complete n00b when it comes to DIY audio and precise circuit board soldering, so apologies in advance!
TL;DR
I have a Lepai lp-2020a+.
I Accidentally broke the original dual gang 20k volume potentiometer.
I Replaced it with a 100k dual gang pot from Radio Shack with about 3 feet of wire between the circuit board and the pot. My goal was to be able to relocate the volume knob. There is also a red wire that I'm not sure what to do with. (See image 4) This used to be soldered to the side of the original pot. But I'm not sure where to attach it on the new one.
Now I have really low volume levels and static and disappointment.

I bought a Lepai lp-2020a+ from amazon with plans to put it into this old record cabinet: Record Cabinet
My goal was to relocate the power switch and the volume pot into the original cabinet's knobs so that the unit would still look original and be functional. The power switch works great but, unfortunately I broke the Lepai's volume pot when I was desoldering it.
I bought a replacement from RadioShack and soldered 3 foot lengths of wire from the board and soldered on the new pot. I'm not sure if this is important, but the Lepai's volume pot had "20k" printed on it and the replacement from RadioShack is 100k. After that I turned it on and I have REALLY low volume and occasional static. It's worth noting that the original pot had a wire soldered to the casing (seen in image 6) that went back to the board (the red wire in image 4). This may have been a ground, but I have no idea.
