Replacement for NE5532AN

The NJM and other versions may be available, as are Kia (at least 4558 was made by Kia), the NJM5532 was considered superior to the TI and other makes.

Japan Radio Co. is now Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc.

There are also the TI TL072 / 082 and AN series low noise devices to bear in mind, if you want to improve the design, check the situation with regard to production status first.

That's interesting. The NE5532A (also from TI) has a data sheet in the style of the old National Semiconductor data sheets. It makes me wonder who bought who at what point. 🙂

Silicon Dioxide as insulator for more modern planar style wafers was invented by Fairchild. Largest producer of high performance transistors.
Fairchild was bought by National Semiconductor. National was bought by Texas Instruments.

Signetics was formed by Ex Fairchild Engineers, Sold to Philips now NXP
Never the leader of analog by miles, and more known for low cost logic

Fairchild was considered the leader of logic gates regardless when bought.
National Semiconductor the leader of Analog. Bought the leader of logic.
Trying to compete with = Intel
Hence any Analog legacy owned by TI was actually made by National.

I worked for a while in an analog-optimized SOI process at National. That was an awesome process. Fully complimentary with vertical PNPs (and NPNs too, of course). Not the greatest for a high-power chip, but fantastic for opamps and such. I recall that SOI wafers are pretty expensive. It takes forever to grow the oxide.

Any thoughts on chinese clones? There seem to be plenty manufacturers listed at LCSC, some with higher bandwidth and higher V/us. Since the 5532 layout is not terrible complicated to manufacture, are these comperable to "old" versions, or just annoyingly worse and should be avoided like the plague?

Chinese clones... I wouldn't buy any OpAmp of AliExpress. Check YouTube about that.
BTW Original TI are $1.50 a piece... No biggie. In my opinion, OpAmps should always be purchased from a reliable source if you want to avoid surprises. Even though, I remember main suppliers offering fake Onsemi/Motorola transistors without knowing. But it was just a rare glitch.

Because Signetics version of 5532 is long obsolete, i have TI NE5532A only although i wanted to have Onsemi version.
In my world 5532A, 5534A, TL072A & OPA2134PA is more than enough for most of the work & these aren't expensive at all, so why buy from unauthorised source?

Since the 5532 layout is not terrible complicated to manufacture....
Don't forget it took more than 40 years for major manufacturers to surpass the performance of 5532, so don't expect same performance from no name cheap Chinese clones.

NJM 5532 was about $0.40 here a few years back.ST was 0.30, and TL072 only 0.20 US$.

The Chinese ones may be re-marked 358s for all you know.
You do get populated boards for use as audio pre amplifiers, check them out if you feel like saving some work on soldering and making the PCB or getting one made to order.

No, not all Chinese made opamps are remarked fakes, sometimes they do try to copy a genuine 5532 or TL072. The question is how good the copy is? Don't forget they're the master of copying which is a good practice if you try to learn, you may like or not.

It's normal because everyone wants to have parts from major semiconductor manufacturers, not from unknown chinese companies. Some second source like KEC(Korea), UTC(Taiwan), MOSPEC(Taiwan) is almost as reliable as major manufacturers, but i'm unaware of such good Chinese second source.

The general trend in posts here in this forum is that there are too many sellers on line preying on the small quantity buyer market with dubious parts, many operate out of China.
However, please bear in mind that there are top class factories China, and they prefer to sell in minimum lots of 50,000 units, so most hobby users cannot approach such sellers.
My advice is that for a small max. $20 order, stick to a trusted source.

That, exactly, was my question. The answer - so far - is just discrediting chinese parts in general. So I can only assume nobody tested them, nobody used them and everybody hates them just for being chinese.
Caution having to be taken with some of the Chinese parts from, say, AliExpress, has nothing to do with discrediting therm because of their origin country but from actual testings... I wouldn't want to jeopardize a $100 project because I tried saving $1 or $2 on OpAmps from dubious origins.

Chinese parts from, say, AliExpress
Those certainly can not be trusted, but again, that's not the question - LCSC (which I rate a "reputable source") has several unknown-to-me manufacturers of 5532, which offer their parts under their own brand name (and not printing "TI" on them, to list them on Aliexpress or ebay). As LCSC lists them, I assume they are OK-ish, but I still wonder how good or bad these parts are. All tests I have found circle around those fake ones, some quite good, some utter e-waste.
(I would certainly only use premium sourced parts for something with at least some value, but curiosity remains...)
