Replace a transistor or trashcan,

I bought a used KLH sub with a blown power transistor. I plan to fish out the broke transistor and replace it. I don't see any other obvious problems, but are there other components that would have been affected by blowing a power transistor on a subwoofer amp? The sub itself still works. I have no problem doing any repair of this level.

I'm not sure how bad KLH is, and I really bought this for practice.
If KLH is really worthless then maybe the amp needs to go in the trashcan...

Any ideas?

I would replace the compliment out put xistor
Then using an ohm meter you go back to the driver xistors and check them. Also do resistance check on all the resistors near the output section especialy the lower ohmic values. and check large emiter resistor connected to the output xistors


An ohm meter can be youre friend 🙂

It depends on the circuit topology. You may want to check the driver transistors also. 🙂

I don't know much about KLH amps, but I have a couple of KLH 15" 4-way speakers (linear dynamics design) and I love them, they sound great. They are 120W RMS and are 4Ohms. I have almost finished the amplifier design to drive them. Just some minor bugs.

You know, you should replace both outputs and drivers. Always one back further than the last blown device.
I guess that means that on a Yamaha amp, you replace the preamp too.
The KLH will sound great on your computer. That's where the last cheap sub I repaired is. My wife loves it!
