Removing shrink tubing

I need to remove the heat shrink from some connections. I have tried using scissors, xacto knife, and plyers. This is a real PITA. Is there something that will dissolve the heatshrink or some other method for getting ths stuff off of the connections. Thanks

yeah, it can be really tough material

I would suggest to cut like in drawing
about halfway through surface of shrink tubing

needless to say, your knife may need a fresh blade 😉 this is surgery 😀

I always remember a teacher saying never flesh in front of cutting tools
many times I wanted him in front of my knife 😛


btw, if it is shrink tubing with glue on inside, I don't know how it will be then

A doctor's tool??

I normally use a scalpel. It works for me. The incission has to be precise lest you cut the wires...

Sounds like yours was installed over glue or sealer. Plain old heat shrink is easy to remove by slitting its length. If it won't come off, then there is some adhesive involved,.

If there is adhesive it my be the thermal setting type . If so apply heat. Regards ian.

Thanks for the suggestions. As there are 16 of these suckers, i have decided to solder to the steel knobs on the top of the box type caps. I have asked for help on this in another thread. Thanks again.
