Can anyone recommend a remote control kit for use with a motorized ALPS pot? Remote on and off would be a plus, but not necessary.

If you are willing to replace the Alps Pot with a stepped attenuator, I have built several pre-amps using these (with remote and display). They are pricey, but work perfectly and sound awesome. High Quality Audio & Industrial Attenuators and Passive Preamplifiers

George's design, the only board I have completed thus far is an SSE, taught me quite a bit. I comprehend and retain more with hands on learning. The instructions are clear and do a great job of explaining what is going on at each stage of the build without getting so in depth that I want to cry. Everyone on this sub has been super helpful too.
Before I tried the SSE I had only made minor upgrades and repairs to older amps, which gave me the bug. Initially I posted on another forum, which is attached to an online store for point-to-point amp parts. I asked a bunch of questions and while I did receive some useful pointers and made one great contact, the majority of it was brutal. One moderator told me something to the effect of 'You don't know what you are doing. I suggest you stop before you get hurt'.
I love George's designs and have built several. But his are all power amps, and the SP14 is a pre-amp...so not as much guilt discussing here in the TubeLab forum.
Speaking of... if I build a pre-amp, would I be better off to not have a volume control on my power amp? Or should I just leave the manual one on it?
If you only ever plan on using a preamp, then yes, it is somewhat marginally better. I really doubt that you would notice the difference though between that and a decent pot set to full volume.
The SSE has more than enough gain to not require a full-time preamp. Installing a pot gives you flexibility.

I haven't used the relay switching but I would choose something similar to the attached pic at whatever voltage suites the application. I would also look for a relay socket as I don't like line voltage on a PCB.
They come with an el cheapo remote which I have plans to repackage. I suppose a learning remote would work.
