I would like to ask this forum about relay switch wiring. I am using a 5 volt relay circuit from Hoffman amplifiers page. There is quite a bit of vagueness about the common placement, whether it should be floating or chassis. Their instructions show the common going to the chassis if the power transformer (6.3v part) does not have a center tap or if there is an artificial center tap. If the power transformer does have a center tap on the 6.3v part then only use a floating common, like battery. I've asked the question and get subjective responses and never get a definitive answer. Most of my original posts about the topic are gone now, but someone else just asked the same thing I did awhile back so I thought I would re-address my confusion. The answer is not what I asked. A 'no' would be helpful, but for some reason that is never the case.
So, I will try here with the question:
1.) Can one use a chassis ground as the relay's common point for a power transformer that has the 6.3v part with an artificial center tap?
2.) If my transformer has a center tap, can one NOT connect it and then make an artificial center tap from the two 6.3v leads? I would only want to do this if the first question is: yes, one can use a chassis ground for the relay system if the transformer's 6.3v section does not have a center tap and you make an artificial one. Otherwise I would not want to do this. (this would be so I can use a 3 pin plug for my footswitch, one for the relay, one for the boost and the last one for the ground)
