Hey everyone,
I need to fix a pioneer SX 980. The 48V MSJU relay Needs replacing. I have a suitable Omron, but the contact pins are a bit too close together. Dies anyone have a trick to deal with this or do I need to get a base ?
Thanks, Pete

Sorry if this advice is stupid but if I understand your question correct, do you have two possibilitys.
1) Make a pcb to the relay and fitting pins on the bottom side.
2) bend a stiff wire that can go from one relay leg to the pcb hole and then make a way to fasten the relay, maybe with hot glue. You shall end up with a squarish bottom block where the bend wire goes from the fasten relay down trough the glue block and fits in the pcb hole..

I think I shall fabricate an 'interface pcb' that bridges the distance between the two, as FriedMule suggests. Unfortunately I don't have any stock, so it will have to wait.
Thanks !
Thanks !
Yes, that could work ! But I'll try the other stuff first, as that old relay is my last resort if everything else fails.

Are you sure you have the correct Omron replacement? People list the proper relay on the Audiokarma site, need to look there and see what is recommended

It is in this thread in the Pioneer section
SX-980 for my dad

Unfortunately the recommended one is on backorder, so I have to make due. I have ordered it, but projected shipping date is April 20 at the earliest.
So wait then rather than compromise. Why would not have said this initially that you are impatient and do not want to wait for the proper fitting relay?

Yeah, waiting a couple of weeks to refurbish a 40 year old device is probably the right tradeoff 🙂
Octopart shows several vendors with a few each.

Master has 5 but minimum order is 3. (So what will they do with the 2 left over???) And a note they are "moving as quickly as possible". (Electrosonic is Master in Canada; same inventory.)

Use the old relay base with different relay.
Or even with a simple mosfet SS relay. Not really convinced those are sufficiently transparent for high end equipment but perhaps unimportant for that particular amp. On the plus side the SS relay will last forever.
