Consider using an LR8N3 regulator. I use this with a mosfet pass device substituted for the Tip50 transistor in this link. Either works very well. It supplies regulated voltage to 4 12SN7s in a pre plus crossover device. It is small, can fit on a 2x2 perfboard, and only needs a small heatsink on the Tip50 or mosfet if the voltage drop from the B+ is small. In my case 30 volt drop at 80 ma.
