Re the mat, bring it on! I’ve read that bare acrylic works. And I’ve read mats make a big difference. I’m sure the mat won’t price me out of my next car 🚗!
Cork works well. Others use rubber, felt, etc.
Don't forget you have to adjust the tone arm height to compensate for the mat thickness.
At least use sorbothane under the wood feet. It can be recessed from the edge so it's not visible.Re the feet, they will have leather or cork on the bottoms of the wood to disrupt the resonant frequency of the wood. This has been scientifically tested by a certified Swiss company 😂 and further decoupling of metal threads for foot height adjustment by - wait for it - plumbers tape on the threads. Is that good for Rev1 or do I need rubber feet painted to look like wood 🪵
Adjust the thickness so it's still somewhat bouncy, not smashed down. Maybe around 1/4" thick, or less.

Absolutely. It is height adjustable similar to a Rega tonearm with either a threaded stem with locking collar or a stem/sleeve with collar and grub screws.
It’s all made by me except the ortofon cartridge.
By the rack you mean bottom « plinth » that everything sits on yes.
The plinth is made combination of CNC techniques and drilling wiring channels by hand before gluing the two sides together.
I am a guitar builder and am applying guitar building aesthetics and tone woods and techniques to this project to see what it comes out as far as audiophile or not. Some say wood is no good for turntable plinth. But I am isolating them from motors and spindles and plinth with pods and neoprene isolating and other things line that.
Thanks for your interest. Follow along and encourage me to completion!

Interested in your turntable project. I take it, you made your own wood rack?

I also built the CNC you see in the pics from plans I purchased.Interested in your turntable project. I take it, you made your own wood rack?
You bet, with acrylic or POM you place the LP directly on the platter. You will need a clamp or weight.Re the mat, bring it on! I’ve read that bare acrylic works. And I’ve read mats make a big difference. I’m sure the mat won’t price me out of my next car 🚗!
My TT uses a platter of 40mm 6061 T6 with 30mm POMC bolted to the top and it works, there is a reason TT manufacturers are using POM for their platters. POM and acrylic are very close in acoustic impedance to the LP so the energy imparted into the LP from the stylus is transferred into the platter. This significantly reduces surface noise.
My platter has no label recess it uses a reflex clamp

POM is Acetal most commonly known as Delrin (Dupont trademark) there are 2 variants POMC and POMH.
Acrylic is good and will work way better than aluminium. I used POMC because it has higher density than acrylic with a slower speed of sound so it attenuates the sound traveling through it better than acrylic. The downside is it's not stable once machined so it needs to fixed to something and I use aluminium. If the POM was removed from the aluminium it could warp.

Platter POD milled on CNC. Neoprene damping around edge. Cork or neoprene will go underneath pod as well.
Got it spinning. Not sure if my oil bearing is good enough. But it spins. Had to sand sleeve for spindle to fit in so it’s about as tight as it can get. I will probably re mill as one piece without a threaded spindle into bushing. I put tape on the threads as the threads add wobble too.
Now for the motor pod and belt assembly.

Here is my fusion design followed by the real cartridge with aluminum plate@rayma good point.
My DIY arm used a similar HS arrangement to Audiomods but I slotted the HS plate and had a single bolt hole in the HS carrier, this allowed different cartridges to be setup in plates and swapped without the need to re-align each time.
