Reference DIY system

Let's see if we can get this rolling.
Out of all the gear you've built yourselves or heard at fellow DIYers etc, can you name the components that'd go into your "Reference DIY system"?
You could include a full system or just a single component (e.g. power amplifier) that you would want in your "Reference" system.

Go ahead!
From loudspeakers to source components, tube gear or SS gear, just as long as it's DIY project and not just a copy of a commercial product.

Aim of the thread is not to reach a consensus but more like a fun exercise/discussion.
OK, there's always the danger of getting new entries on our ever-growing "To Build" lists, but what the heck... 😀

I'll take a stab at it...

Too much to consider, but...
Amplifiers (I do like the idea of integrated amplifiers including phono stages):
  • Pass DIY/preamp. (not sure which would be best for applications...)
  • M400 kit (someone here got rid of Pass stuff because he felt this was a better amp)
  • Lightspeed or similar opto-coupled attenuator
  • A Leben C-300 inspired integrated...(perhaps with a dyna-mut front end...

Speakers:
  • karlsons
  • Tannoy Westminster inspired mini-horns
  • my own "experimenter's horn" if I can ever muster the time and $$$s
  • some sort of ESL, with help from Mr.James
  • one really bitchin' OB, using "proper " fullrange drivers
  • a really nice pair of planet10's Onken style enclosures with PHY drivers (if suitable)

Turntables:
  • my own design DIY table from scratch
  • a DIY example of a "Linn-a-like", or "Thorens-a like"...
  • a complete new build of something like a Lenco L75 or Empire 208, but with custom parts

CD Player: Shiga-clone with Yamaoto inspired DAC

But most of these are beyond my technical ability. Not for some, but for me 🙂
