Reference DAC Module - Discrete R-2R Sign Magnitude 24 bit 384 KHz

Hi Søren

I have not been following this thread for a long time now, but I see that you have released a number of new firmwares and filters, and the discussions about filters and their effects seem to have faded out. This is probably the sign of good filters 😀
So with what filters did you end up? Paul's ones? Or did you design new ones from the ground up?

Hi,

Just got the board today, it looks very cool.

What firmware do the Rev 3 boards come with?

Also, regarding the Vref 16 capacitor mod, the board I received looks like it has its through holes filled by the clear coat layer, so I'll have to attach the caps on top of the board (somewhat harder).

I think I'll do the mod after testing the DAC fully built.

I just assembled and am now listening to my Rev3 board. I updated uManager firmware to 1.06 (posted a couple pages back). FPGA Revision updated to 1.05. Using an Amanero for USB to I2S.

Everything appears to be working as expected so far, but I have one small issue. Randomly, the music will stop for a second or two, then pick back up and go. When this happens, the LED on the board goes from solid to flashing (and then back to solid-on as soon as the music starts again). My understanding is that flashing means no signal lock. So somehow it apparently loses its signal lock. This is with redbook CD audio (i.e. 44/16 PCM). I can't determine any pattern to it; it's very intermittent and almost infrequent enough to ignore.

Anyone else ever see this?

With the brief listening I've done so far, I really like what I hear!

I designed my own, all by using rePhase 🙂

Seen before with substandard signal integrity.... The I2S interface have high speed digital signals that require short wires and good gnd, preferable one gnd per signal wire. Also ensure that the isolated side have the needed 3.3V power, it can actually work without, but not that good....
