Reel to Reel Head Swap

Hi All,

Trying to wrap my head around this.

Say you have a standard Mono 1/2 Track Reel To Reel.
What are some reasons why I wouldn't be able to replace the Record and Playback head to Mono Full track.

I see some Nagra III Heads, I can't afford the Nagra but maybe I can have an interesting mastering deck using it's heads.

Is the signal to the heads fairly standard voltage? Though that might be easier to manipulate than dealing with properly mounting and aligning the new head in the old transport.

Dreaming up weekend projects, let me know what you guys think.

I would say that the major difficulty would be the MECHANICAL aspects---getting the mono head to mount properly with correct track height, azimuth, and zenith. Icsaszar is correct, but an alignment tape is something you should have nonetheless. All such 1/4" alignment tapes are recorded full-track anyway. The remaining electrical differences should be able to be adjusted for.
