I picked up a pair of CV 15" woofers recently. Both spiders were missing and voice coils damaged. Is it possible to recone without removing cone andsurrounds?
Anything is possible, it depends on how much time you want to invest.
I have rebuilt a lot of drivers, including reusing parts.
You would be best completely disassembling the drivers and replacing voice coil and spider. Obviously the dust cap needs to come off to do this.
This is necessary to mount the new voice coil and align the coil/cone assembly in the air gap (shims into the gap during assembly)
To me this is an enjoyable distraction. I am sure most repair shops would turf all the moving parts for new.
