Recommendations to drive my Altec 1003B horn.

Hi.

I have an unusual DIY speaker setup: I use an electronic crossover to biamp an Altec 1003b horn driven by a phenolic driver covering 300Hz to about 8kHz with a horn super tweeter crossed over for 8kHz and up, with one of the several bass speakers that I have handling the lower end. I usually drive the lower end with a high power SS, and I've been very happy with it. I've used a number of tube and SS amps to drive the horns. At about 113db at 1W @ 1 meter, the horns are incredibly sensitive and efficient, so at my normal listening levels I'm probably just using few hundred miliwatts.

I decided to try the Dayton DTA-1 with the Tripath TA2024 and I was surprised by the detail and clarity without the fatigue. I'm looking to improve and get something with a better circuitry. I'm now trying the FiiO A1 Mini. Sounds good so far but I'm looking to improve. Does anyone have any mod recommendations for the FiiO?

I also looked at the Hypex which is highly regarded here, but I don't really need 100s of Watts. Any Hypex recommendations on the lower power end?

Any other recommendations are appreciated.

Finally, any comments whether using battery instead of a SPS would make any difference.

Thanks.
Elias

Suggest a low power Class A amplifier for best results, or else a small triode SE or PP amp.

The F5 gives first class results, fwiw. I truly think that either choice you will find to be much easier to listen to than what you have been using up until now.

Just my 2 cents worth.
