Hi,
I need some help choosing a pair of bookshelves for under $150. It will be used with a "DAYTON AUDIO SUB-800 8" 80 WATT POWERED SUBWOOFER". It is mostly for near field listening at low wattage. Source will be computer. Will be using a home built LM3886 amp. I currently run the setup with Polk T15 but need another set of speakers.
Is Infinity Primus 143 worth it?
Thanks

If you can build enclosures, Meniscus Audio lists kits for several two-way speakers that cost near or less than $150 per pair.

I think it's important to understand your priorities/expectations and if the $150 includes cabinets or not... the truth is it's a tight budget, and if final result is the end goal you're probably better off buying some 2nd hand bargains on ebay... I'm happy to be corrected, but I'd have thought minimum for a worthwhile diy effort budget would be $280+cabinets... at that value there's a lot of very good options... you could also raid the swap meet for something if you really want to DIY, you may find a bargain abandoned project
Hi,
This one is easy : X-LS Classic kit
The best budget value kit by a mile.
Assuming DIY good cabinets.
Nearfield for a PC may need some PC EQ.
rgds, sreten.

By far a deal.
I was lucky enough to have got a pair of shadow maple from Mark when this was shown at RMAF.Sorry I sold them.
Sorry, I guess I posted in the wrong forum. I was looking for completely assembled speakers.
But my curiosity for building has been spiked.🙂 Thanks.

Check out the JBL LSR305. $149 per speaker. But measurements are spectacular. Extremely linear. Should give smooth, unfatiguing sound for many years. Technology from JBL's flagship M2 monitor was used.
Note that it has built in amps and pro style connectors.

SP-BS22-LR is 6ohm, will that need more power?
I had them in a 11' x 18' room for a while with a 30wpc amp and it
was definitely loud enough for me. Very enjoyable sound.
There is also this:
Affordable Accuracy
which is a modified Pioneer with new tweeter, cabinet damping
and new crossover. I have no experience with them, but the
mods look interesting.
Settled on the SP-BS22-LR, sounds much more rounder compared to T15. Waiting for it to break in.

Seems an incredible deal, though this person thinks it needs a little DSP correction: JBL LSR305 DSP Corrections

An Eminence Beta 8CX and a PRV D280Ti will give you a nice 94 dB sensitive setup that is very compact if you only need to go to 80Hz. $110 not including a XO which you can probably put together yourself in pieces and parts for another $40 for a$150 total not including wood for box.
Here are some box recommendations: http://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/more-info/290-500-eminence-beta-8cx-more-info.pdf
Or you might try the XKi 6th order bandpass Karlson aperture box:

Thanks. Being a beginner in all this would like to actuall mess with my old Polk T15s, if you know any mods?
rather than experimenting with my new BS22 🙂 BTW they sound pretty nice as they are.
