Hi, I have been involved for some time in this community, not as an expert but as an amateur (who can as well do some light project 🙂. So far I have been mainly looking at amps/pre amps and DACs. Thanks to this community I was able to add some incredible components to my systems and recently I also started thinking about speakers as i want to buy an extra pair.
I did some searches in the forum and could not find a lot of recent stuff about this item, but recently I have been seeing (especially on ebay) some interesting offers for hand made speakers - especially from Italian sources.
So happy to get some recommendations in this space!

I am not sure you will get any usable advice here. Why not build a loudspeaker yourself? It is fun and not so expensive. You can have the box panels cut to size, then glue yourself, then cut the opening for the loudspeaker(s), screw them and stuff the cabinet. Perhaps solder some components for the crossover (if there is any). The rest is cosmetics, which is the most fun of all: veneering, varnishing, lacquering, neither needs expensive material, just some dedication. There are excellent project plans here. You will be proud of the result.
But first you have to choose the project according to your music preference. Heavy metal, rock or symphonic orchestra needs a different design than acoustic jazz or chamber music... For the latter type of music a full range design (like Frugalhorn etc.) using a single loudspeaker would be a good choice, and no crossover needed.

What a friend without woodworking skills does, is find a good design, let the woodwork be done by a professional carpenter and does the crossover and speaker mounting himself. He is an electronic engineer, so he knows how to solder and so, but can't do woodwork and designing speakers is also not his strong point... He did build a few speakers like that. The woodworking can cost some money altough...
What i do, as i don't have a real woodworking workshop, is let the wood be cut at a cnc shop i know, and do the final assembly and finishing at home. It's still some woodwork i have to do, but i don't need the big space and big machines (big saw, cnc, ...) i don't have...
Some kits also come with precut wood for the cabinet like the overnight sensation on on soundimport.eu. Then you just need to assemble it and finish it.
