I listened to some speakers today at bestbuy because I'm trying to figure out what I would like to build and there are not many high end shops in town and really liked the vienna accoustics bach speaker. It is a floorstanding 2-way that retails for about $1200. Unfortunately though my budget for the drivers and crossovers is more like $300. I have looked at the plans at zaph audio, humble hifi, murphy blaster and many more that you all recommend, but don't know where to begin. Maybe a proac clone, or a zaph Seas Metal Design bookshelf in a false tower, I'm not sure. I work in a cabinet shop so a complicated cabinet is no problem and I feel fairly comfortable with trying a crossover if there is fairly simple instructions. So, what floorstanding 2-way in the $300 range should I build? What will give me the most crisp clean sound for the price range?
Also they will be powered by an older nad 2155 amp if that makes a difference.

The NatalieP MTM and Modula MT are probably close to what you're looking for. Read the threads, there's some examples how to make floorstanders out of them. The NatP should work well in a 1,1ft^3 reflex with 40Hz tuning.

I was going to recommend the same thing.
If you have a small room or want to spend less build the Modula MT but ask on the htguide forum about adjusting the cabinet volume or just make the bass a stand. You could fill it with sand or something.
Those Dayton rs drivers have completely turned diy speaker building on its head and those designs Landroval mentioned are probably the pinnicle.
It would probably take >$1000 to beat those designs.
edit: that was $1000 invested into a diy project by the way. More for a store bought speaker.

there was discussion of this in either diy audio or or htguide. I think they were putting it into the revamped thor cabinet.
that would be a pretty cool speaker. wouldn't mind doing that one my self. You know how it is though. I have decided on at least three different projects that are "absolutely, for sure, definately, going to be my next speaker project"
