Receiver shorted out and smoked

I told you about electrolytic capacitors, there is a relative danger. They are no longer formed, and when you put them under voltage, they can have a large leakage current, heat up, leak electrolyte, or build up pressure and inflate. There is a procedure for reforming, but it requires them to be removed from the circuit, and slowly charged with a small current raising the voltage in several steps and held at the rated voltage for a while to re-form. Or to replace all of them with new ones. I don't know how much that oscilloscope is worth the trouble, when there are cheap Chinese digital oscilloscopes that are much better.

Might I suggest you throw that ratshack 'cold solder' thing in the bin, and buy a normal soldering iron
I’ve never used that junk. I just thought it might be used for something like that. I have the one that you sent me the link to. I’ve got the gun one, but this is the one I use.

Don’t use the plumbing solder and flux you have on the right picture. Make sure you buy some proper solder for electronics, with flux in the solder.

I would also recommend a new soldering tip for your iron, unless you really can clean it and make sure it no longer contains traces of the flux and old plumbing solder.

Regards, Gerrit

Oh, there was my mistake I think. So so once I clean the tip I have to prep the tip. In the picture the bottom is what I used and the top is what I should be using? and I assume I still need to scuff the parts also
