recapping my beloved old speakers

sounds great everyone!! great advise!!
i'll wait for the ESR meter and will test everything before going ahead with swapping them out. I do like how they sound now, but after reading tons of people recap their old speakers I thought after 40 years they may be due hehe.

i'll update the thread when I get updates 😀

They look similar to the ELCAP capacitors used by the likes of Wharfedale in the 70's. (See attached image.)

ELCAPs are non-polar (NP) electrolytics which are notorious for going bad with age.

Lots of things happened since I last posted and updated this thread.
so here's an update:
After testing everything last year everything turned out to be on spec so I decided to leave them as is.
I then got lucky a few months ago and found a 2nd pair online. They are now running together side by side in my living room. ( 2 lefts, 2 rights ).
I took apart the 2nd pair and found that a completely different setup of caps ( much newer ) and did sound brighter as some of you suggested would happen.
I left them as is ( both pairs ) and paired together they sound absolutely wonderful. I added small wedge blocks to my more mellow pair to angle them a bit upwards. I used PSaudio's book to help me find the sweet spot for placement in my room and that has also helped alot.
I will have to replace the switches at one point or possibly bypass them to the settings I like but for now, a good clean up seems to have helped.

thanks again for all the great advice!
