I guess it's time I stop being a voyeur and start participating.
Hi. My name is Bob and I'm addicted to audio.
Wow, I never thought I'd be able to say it in public.
Just kidding. (not really)
So, I've been ransacking this forum for ideas for quite sometime. You guys have helped me learn so much. Not that I understand half of the technical stuff but I'm catching on.
I started out buying a few silver faced Kenwood pieces on fleabay, then I was at an auction in the basement of a house where there were all these old metal boxes with tubes sticking out of them. I started to bid and it was just me and one other person. my wife made me stop at $30. The other "gentleman" ending getting 6 pcs for $32 each. There were 2 st70s, 3 heathkit w5s a eico tube tester. That was beginning of me not listening to my wife, and a facination with tubes.
I started buying organ amps and modding them for hifi. At one time I had triamped my CV D-9s using 5 tube amps I modded. Not very loud but it did sound better than the Kenwoods. I had to change my breakers.
Skip ahead to the present. I've met several hifi nuts in my neighborhood over the last few years. All of them buy their gear. I prefer to build mine.
We started having sessions a couple times a year, that usually last all weekend, where everyone brings over something new and we test drive combinations and see which we like best. Speakers, amps. pre's, transports, turntables, dacs, etc. It is extremely enjoyable. Except that my wife gets tired of us playing the same songs over and over. So far, I know, I love tubes over any solidstate. Having cornwalls helps, they are so unforgiving. But the quality of the tube makes a HUGE difference.
Not to pitch myself but I do build chassis's. So far I've only sold a few for the engineers amp. ( with Pete's blessing ). If anyone is interested see my red board posts. Mostly I build them for me. I would be willing to trade for something interesting. And if there's anyplace that I've seen interesting things, it is here.
Well, it's time to flip the record.
Thanks again, See ya soon.
BTW I am always looking for new music recommendations ( Please, no country)

Hi, Bob! (drink)
The chassis you did for Ray was gorgeous. And I thought the same thing about country until I moved here and learned the difference between the slick pop crapola marketed as "country" and the really fine music-making that can be done in that genre.
Glad you've de-lurked!

Welcome to the forum Bob... just like there is good rock and bad rock, there is good country and bad country. I mostly listen to jazz 🙂

Thanks guys.
I was actually refering to the popcrap country. There's alot of stuff in my collection which I refuse to call country but deep inside I know is. I simply love any almost anything acoustic. Even if I don't like the genre, I will listen to something that is well produced. Example: I still don't really like Alan Parsons but his production was well done.
Planet10, I just recieved a disc from a friend of Miles Davis, Cannonball and Nate Adderly, and Coltrane in san fran which is spectacular. I am a huge Jazz and Blues Fan.
I look forward to chatting in the future.
