Hi! Currently using these as garage speakers and wondering if the cabinets might be salvageable. Woofers are 6 1/2, tweeters i think are 1". Believe they were made by RCA. Highs suck, mids suck not quite as bad, bass sucks but not as bad as the highs. Are there any drivers i could use to replace the ones in the boxes or should i just use them for firewood and be done with them? Cabs are approx .4 cubic ft? Worth fooling with?? thanks guys. Regards, J.D.
Just looked for them online and the cabinets look like they are made from 3/8" or so chipboard. They are probably not even braced inside either. To be honest it depends on what you are looking for when it comes to modifying them. If you just want a cheap and simple project then yeah re-using them would be the quickest way to that goal. However, not sure about you but my shop speakers get played pretty dang loud at times, especially when we are using angle grinders. Cheap cabinets like the ones you have resonate quite a bit at louder volumes.
So personally I would just get rid of/donate them and start from scratch. Even just some simple 1/2" plywood properly braced would be a much better starting point. Not sure what type of wood working tools you have, but I've built quite a few cabinets with just my trusty Bosch jigsaw and straight edge. Plus why limit yourself to a 6.5" woofer? 🙂

Pretty much what I was thinking also. Thought I would get some opinions here though before I went any further. Yep, my garage speakers get fairly loud at times too. Oh well, will use them for something. Test speaker probably. Thanks man, appreciate the advise. Regards, J.D.
