Postman,
Can you post a picture?.
Most such speakers can be improved cheaply quite nicely and easily by replacing electrolytic crossover caps with Polypropylene caps bridged with lower value ceramics, adjusting levels to the tweeters and adjusting amount and type of internal damping, or even adding internal bracings.
Without too much cost or effort you can improve them and learn at the same time.
Eric.

Hey All!,
Last I looked, Radio Shack(Ratio Hack) speakers were all(Mostly) Pioneer drivers. Not bad, not great. They did make a few that were/are quite popular for using in QWTP (Voigt Pipes).

Re: Realistic Speakers
With the number of their drivers i've seen sourced from Foster, this should be amended to some. I have also seen Coral drivers in them.

I would guess that R.S. has used/is using many brands of drivers over the years. I would also guess that these brands might even change from country to country. I have used Their musical instrument speakers for replacements in some amp stacks, but I've never used any of Their other speakers. The musical speakers were OK, and were fine for an inexpensive amp replacement speaker. I was somewhat suprized that the Radio Shack 5 1/4" full range was/is a sought after speaker for the QWTP/Voigt speaker crowd.
Cheers!

The RS40-1354 giant killer. I haven't figured out who the OEM for those was, but the other RS gk the 40-1197 is OEMed by Foster.
