Hi All,
I have acquired a pair of Realistic 40-1320 12" full range drivers.
The bass unit works OK but one of the HF units appears faulty.
Are these worth keeping ?
Is the HF unit available or repairable ?

Huh. Never seen a coaxial driver with also a whizzer before. I would pop off the tweets and put a nice fat phase plug on; then measure them. See what I get. If it's super treble-shy, there appears to be plenty of room to mount a nice soft dome there and design a crossover to match.
I'll move this over to multi-way as that's what they seem to be. What an interesting creature. Not seen them before. Is the tweeter dynamic or piezo?
I vaguely recall these units...they were about 1974? TRS 1 era? , If I recall they were around 30W capable. I remember seeing them in the catalog.
I would wild *** guess they were made by one of the now well known makers (Eg Fosters,Jensen, et.al.). I think they were $29.99 then...and they had a smaller version, 8"??
Doubt it any replacements tweeters are around for them...a nice soft dome might match-up OK.

If I remember correctly the 8 was called "The Americana"
I saw one recently at the tip being thrown away, I didn't pick it up and keep it as I din think it was worth repairing

Nice find mikeandmar, I just love going through the old catalogues.
Boy that 40-1330 sure looks like the Altec 409B no?

If you like old catalogs then here's the rest of them from 1939-2005 a few missing in between the mid 40's. Browse away!

Absolutely, including the surround. Great little speaker that was.
