Hi guys,

Browsing the PassDiy Gallery is getting more and more of a downer these days, as the gear people are building is looking amazing, and I feel ashamed to even look at my BOZ/ZRE

Does anyone know where I can buy enclosures in the UK that are as good quality as the ones people use, and are'nt the normall cheap aluminium project boxes everyone seems to sell?

Thanks

Hi Ric,

You could try West Hyde:

I don't know the pricing or quantity policy.

A company I use for custom metalwork is Holt broadcast:
http://www.holtbs.co.uk

They normally supply equipment manufacturers, but they've done plenty of 1 offs for me.
If you're not cheapskating, just fax them a dimensioned drawing, and a note of which of their range you want it based on, for a quote. Also mention paint and legend requirements.

Cheers,

John

Re 19" cases - I've been on a similar hunt for a UK supply for cases (cheapskate in my case, though). Have a look at Farnell - look in the Enclosures | 19 equipment | Cases section - they have some alu 19" cases there - pics are very small though, so not sure how good they look.

I bought the rackcase for my preamp from Electrospeed, who appear to be closing down, unfortunately. RS are their parent company, and stock the same cases...

I'm refering to the all-aluminium cases made by IPK - these feature extruded front and rear panels, so no fixings on the front panel. They do a slightly more expensive version with extruded side panels as well - these are nice. Finally, there's a non-rackmount range that has similar dimensions but no rack-mount ears. RS stock these, and you can order on-line... These cases are available in a black-anodised finish, which is nice...🙂

You'll find that Holt Broadcast, which I mentioned earlier in the tread do the same boxes and their variations.
The owners of both companies used to be business partners, and now seperate, compete for the same market.
I have always found Holt to be the cheaper, though the quality is the same.

Cheers,

Do they take credit-card orders over the phone, or is that wishful thinking?
Not last time I checked. They are mainly used to dealing with account customers. A cheque with order might do.
Be aware also that delivery is extra.
You could collect from them in Reading, saving delivery charge.
Where are you located?
I have an account. If you're close you could alternatively collect from me. I'm in South Bedfordshire.

e-mail me through the forum if you need help.

Cheers,
