Which university? Or are you loath to say?It would come under audio technology, my university has recently opened a research department and are keen for me to work with them.
Incidentally, Leeds university library has a truly world-class collection of valve-based electronics literature.

I wondered if that was where you are. I'm not far from there and enquired about jobs a couple of years ago. The Prof told me there was nothing coming up in the foreseeable future.
Thats interesting... I wouldnt know about jobs, but im looking for an external supervisor for my Mphil. If the circumstances were right, is that something you would consider doing?

I'm not certain what an external supervisor does. I'm not an academic (furthest I got was postdoc), and audio is just a hobby. My PhD was in radio, and I have never built (or even thought seriously about) a mic preamp. However, I probably know a bit more about valves than most modern academics (which is quite easy, as they generally know almost nothing!).
