Trying to find a solution:
I've got an old console stereo. I recently refinished the whole thing and its looking great, but the only problem is it is empty--all the original electronics have been removed. I would like to load the cabinet with a couple of 12" speakers, my turntable and some sort of receiver/amp. I'm not looking for top of the line components, nor does this have to deliver amazing sound, I just think it would be cool to have this as a functioning system.
II doubt theres enough room for a full size receiver. I thought there must be some kind of simple amp out there with volume, 3 band eq, rca input and 2 channel output, but I can't find anything to fit the bill. Maybe I'm just not searching for the right thing? Can anyone give me some suggestions for this component?
The other issue is the speakers. I'm going to look for a pair of 12" drivers but once I find them, what kind of wiring or components will I need to get to hook them up to the stereo?
Any ideas?

I hope you mean to put more than just twelve inch speakers in the cabinet. You probably need a midrange driver and a tweeter for that set up. Those don't have to cost that much, but you would have to build circuits for them. You can build most of what you are asking for in an amp with a class-d amplifier, and power-supply. The equaliser is the hard part. Why? If you build a good system it should produce a nice flat sound.
I have an old console stereo in my garage. I am planning to gut it and use the cabinet as a fish tank stand. want the gutz?
