I am fixing an old pair of ADS inc. speakers, the surround on one speaker has come disconnected from the frame. as far as i can tell the surround type is a basic rubber (butyl?), not foam. what kind of glue should i use? epoxy? rubber cement? Elmers? help me out here guys. much appreciated.

Parts Express sells a one ounce bottle of "special" speaker repair glue for $5.95 US.
Or you can go to a discount craft store and buy a glue that claims to produce "a flexible water resistant bond to difficult to glue surfaces."
You can buy the craft glue in an 8 ounce bottle for $4.00 US. Inside the bottles the glue is almost identical. Two names are Beacon Gem-Tac and Crafter's Pick The Ultimate.
Good luck,
Mark
