RCF 4TH ORDER

Hi everyone. Stupid question here. I have 4 Rcf LF15X401, can i use them for a 4th order bandpass? At the moment they are into a dual 15 horn reflex hybrid, maybe into a 4th order they sound better? Worse? Please help.

Not a stupid question at all—it's always good to explore different enclosure options! Before jumping into whether a 4th order bandpass would be a good choice for your RCF LF15X401s, a few important questions:

  • What’s your intended use? Are you building this for live sound reinforcement, DJ use, home audio, car audio, or something else?
  • What kind of frequency response and bandwidth are you aiming for? Are you looking for deep sub-bass, punchy mid-bass, or something more balanced?
  • What power levels are you working with? What amps are you using, and how much power do you plan to run through these drivers?
  • What’s the main reason you’re considering a switch? Are you looking for more SPL, tighter response, better efficiency, or just experimenting?
A 4th order bandpass can be great for certain applications, especially when designed properly, but it also comes with trade-offs like reduced bandwidth and sometimes higher group delay. Since you’re currently using a dual 15" horn-reflex hybrid, the change in sound might be quite noticeable. If you're after more efficiency in a specific frequency range, a 6th order bandpass or tapped horn could also be worth considering.

Let us know more details, and we can help you determine if the switch makes sense for your setup!

Thank you for your answer. The reason is..... I want to put them in my car. Please don't laugh, but we like to make some kind of rave party playng music with both doors and trunk open, using the car as a portable stage. 4 10's and a big horn with 1.4"compression driver in each door and the 4 rcf's 15's in the trunk pointing outside. As i mentioned we don't listen inside the car, so the main goal is a system that can have a lot of pressure for music like trance, techno, edm, and similar. I saw a man building something similar with 8 15's, i share the photos here under. Please give me your opinion about that and if the rcf's LF15X401 can be a good choice for a thing like that. Thank you in advance.

I don't know how big your car is, but these drivers seems to need quite large boxes. Since you asked for a 4th order BP I tested that first, but I believe a 6 th order parallel BP is better suited for your needs. This is a design for two 15 inch drivers, with a focus on a slightly pronounced midbass to suite the style of music you mentioned. Since I don´t know anything about your horn-reflex hybrids, I can not comment on the sound character or any difference between them. I just want to give you a baseline of what can be done with those drivers.
