I found this vintage stereo amp at a garage sale. It was made in Japan.
It actually sounds not bad.
I can't find any info on Google.
Has anyone heard of this company?
Any info appreciated.
I did find an ad from a Canadian newspaper dated June 1973 that mentioned this amp. Sold by a company called American HIFI from Winnipeg.
It also has a CSA sticker on the back....CSA is the Canadian equivalent of UL.
Thanx.

Yes Its an Alpha by highgate acoustics Its a typical linn amplifier in silicon
Cheap end of the market but non the less could sound good !
They did models from 10 to 20 watts in this range
The thing to watch for is thermal runaway and excessive bias
set the out put for a standing 20 mA and you will be ok

The amp actually surprised me when I first listened to it.
I think I might invest the time to replace the electrolytic caps.
When I get time??...might be a good winter project!

My main dislike for them was the din standard plugs ! Having said that the din standard was a pain on any make
As time proved this standard fell out of favour
For a budget system garrard sp25 Shure M75/6 and a pair of Wharfdale Lintons it did give great value for money

The din standard was a european (German ) standard cheaper to fit took less panel space 1 din plug would do what 4 phonos were required to do for instance a tape recorder left right record and replay all in one plug
The speaker din plug a round pin and a flat pin was not very good very limited contact area and would not take the larger speaker cables
There is one of these amps on a well known auction site at the moment
