Hello,
I know there are several threads on the subject, but I'm looking for something not connected either.
I have started to use LMS running on my nas + picoreplayer on an old RPI + a simple DAC. It was rather fun, not serious listening. In the recent years, the weight of the audio file listening at home increased a lot. Now it became the first, before LP and CD. I have a DAC now which is not bad.
The "not bad", I mean when I start to choose over the proven CD player. I do not expect to choose over LP, I do not think that time will come (unless I get more lazy 🙂, but I mean it is quote good, which is difficult to achieve. Most commercial DAC I tried I would not pay for it at all. Including some really expensive ones. So sorry for the long text, it is just to highlight that first I'm looking for quality.
I'm looking for advice here. The main thing is : I do not need music library, I do not even want music library. I think that complicates things a lot. Re scanning takes ages, while all I need in the player is to follow the directory structure. That is how I do in Volumio, Moode and LMS too.
Is it possible to "switch it off" in either of the systems?
What SW solution would you suggest?
Thank!
JG

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

In LMS you can browse the music folder without indexing. In Moode/Volumio you can't afaik. But I really don't see why you don't want to use this function. It will give you more info about your music, you'll find your music a lot quicker.Hello,

Make some time to check the tags of your music files! You won't regret it!
I have splitted the database now. I have a base, with most of the files, than a "temporary" where I put new files in and a guest drive. That makes it faster.

If this is LMS your talking about ,yes, that's the way to go. I don't have a large library, but for the sake of good file management, I have 4 subfolders, new, high_res, main and lossy. First music goes in the subfolder new. I check the tags and when everything is good and I want to keep the music, I move the files to one of the other subfolders.I have splitted the database now. LMS lets you scan the folders individually, so I only have to scan the subfolder new. At the time I have several new CD which I want to move, I initiate a full scan.
Not LMS, it is Volumio. LMS rescan everything in 1-2 hours. RPI 2B with Volumio or Moode digest it for a lot more. x times more.
But, there is a big difference. In LMS, if I go into the directory, I see the actual directory structure and can play just dropped files. In Volumio/Moode, I do not see those, only after re scan.
Thanks,
JG
