Quick Question

I have a Boxlight projection panel that is missing the power supply. The bottom of the projector says the thing is rated for 12 volts at 2 amps.

I can't find any portable 2 amp 12 volt power supplies for a reasonable price (less than $20), but American Science & Surplus has a nice 1.7 amp 12 volt power supply I think I can use.... would it cause a problem to overdraw the supply for 2 amps? What problems might that cause?

If it's not a problem, even a 1.5 amp from Radio Shack would be nice to use.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Power supply

The good news is, most companies rate the power requirments for their equipment higher than it actually uses. This is to ensure that the power supply won't get overloaded.
That being said, your 2 amp panel probably only draws 1.25 to 1.75 amps. You could most likely get away with using a 1.5 amp supply but you would have to keep an eye on it. If your panel draws too many amps the supply could overheat or even catch fire. But this is highly unlikely. It would most likley get hot and burn out at the most.
I have been using a laptop that requires 1 amp on an 800 milliamp supply for about a year with no problems.
