Quick question .

Hello, I have a quick question about a pair of

Monacor DTM-104/8​

tweeters. They are rated at 45W RMS.
They are in a 2nd order 4khz high pass filter on my towers, that run at around 100-130w RMS .
No L-pad , attenuation circut. Do I need to worry about destroying them at that power , Do I need an L pad or something to lower the power into them,, or they are fine as is.

Hmm, power/Xmax rating in/decreases at +/- 6 dB/octave (4x), so if 45 W @ 2.5 kHz, then it will be somewhat higher @ 4 kHz (the math fails me ATM) and in theory will have an additional 4*45 = 180 W @ 8 kHz.

In short, down low it's a matter of how hot the VC gets on 100 W transients and how many times it can be cycled over 'x' time before cooling goes the way of the Dodo bird and personally have no experience with any modern tweeter, just know that the ones I used many decades ago would have spit the VC right through the diaphragm on 100 W transients. 🙁
 
They should be fine as is as long as you are not going to be over driving your amplifier. A 4.5 Khz crossover gives you fairly good headroom.
For normal music the tweeter might see 20% total power at best. Most power would be distributed at lower frequencies.
What is your crossover schematic or what are you using as far as woofer and midrange?

Thank you for your time. They dont distort at all, if gently touch the textile dome its not even warm ( idk tho, textile won't disipate heat that easy so the actual voice coil might be getting hot)

Here are the speakers, (two 6.5inch for bass mid range ) and sorry for schematic I used paint to draw it LOL ( for some reason I opened LTspice and it didnt work )
L1 is an air core, 0.6mm cu
Plastic former ? , what you typically see in crossovers.
Used an online calculator for inductance based on the size, how many turns, etc. , measured on actual LCR meter, its surpinsingly exactly the value it should be.
( Original Tweeter was 6 ohm )

If you do not know anything about specs on the woofers, you may want to measure the speakers if possible.
REW is fairly easy to set up and use.

Using an 8 ohm tweeter rather then 6 ohm may leave a little peak at the crossover frequency. You are loading a 2nd order crossover a little less and increasing the Q of the filter.
You could add something like a 16 ohm 10W resistor across the tweeters if you seem to hear a peak.

Also 4500 hz is a little high of a crossover point for 6.5 inch woofers. You could consider lowering the crossover point.

If the speakers sound good enough with the new tweeters then you should be set.
