I have been reading everything that I can find on open baffle speakers but have not found the answers to these questions, I may have overlooked them IDK.
1. I see people mounting the speakers on the front side of the baffle and on the back side of the baffle. Is there any difference?
2. If mounted from the front side how come there is isolation baffle between the speaker and the main baffle board?
3. Is it really necessary to isolate the speaker from the main baffle board? I have read in one post that it is but that is the only place that I have seen mention made of it.
My application will be a large lap guitar speaker using an 18" speaker and a 10" speaker. The main baffle board will be 24" x 36".

Hi, as long as listening critically to an hi-fi system brings some considerations
that aren't applyable to a guitar speaker, and having built once a simple frame holding a woofer ( mid and tw on top, above), I can humbly tell you that:
1)It doesn't matter if the wf is mounted either way, since diffraction at the borders of the mounting hole ( deep about 1" ) is significant for the symphatetic wave lenghts, not the case for a woofer.
2)Isolation means preventing vibrations to damage the sound, which itself is of vibrational nature, so there's conflict.
3)How people imagine the solution, well, there are some silly examples, mostly
the reason is that the frame or baffle holding the woofer is directly attached to the ground/pavement, making a resonant system where the products are in the audio (= audible) band.
